So… here’s what happened.

For the last couple of years, I’ve been in the habit of sleeping in a sleeping bag in my bed, because my husband Matt is an unrepentant cover hog. And since we took our cat Gussie in, she’s been in the habit of waking me up around 3 or 4 in the morning to climb inside the sleeping bag with me, snuggling up and napping until it’s time for me to get up.

Well, this morning it was the same routine… sort of. She hopped on the bed around 4, nuzzled me till I woke up and let her in “the cave” and then curled up and started purring like she was going to sleep.

Then at 4:30, she started meowing rather loudly. I thought, “hey, maybe she just wants some attention,” so I started patting her and trying to calm her down. A little before 5, she went into full volume, so loud she even woke the kids up.

Long story short, she gave birth to four kittens, right there on the sleeping bag. I helped her clean them up, and cut the umbilical cords. There are three tabbies and a black kitten, who are now all living in a small laundry basket in my pantry. I just went out to the store to buy a disposable camera, so I’ll post pictures when the roll is full and I’ve gotten them developed.

Rounding off the month, I give you an article about Beltane. I’m neither Pagan, nor do I play one on TV, but it always makes me happy when people are better informed about belief systems that they don’t have. Even if one doesn’t believe in a thing, it’s good to know, for the sake of those who do - and since I’ve got a lot of Pagan buddies, it’s especially good for me to know this stuff, so I don’t sound like an idiot (at least, not accidentally. On purpose is always fine). :P

So, a blessed Beltane to all those who observe it, and to everyone else, happy April 30th.

Wowio is a pretty cool site where you can download free e-books, comic books, and graphic novels.

The downside is that you can only download three books a day / 30 books a month - but that’s not really much of a downside, considering that’s 30 books. You’d have to go through a book a day to feel the hurt from that limit.

Check out this page, from Chevrolet. Apparently, for every person who watches the video, they’ll donate money to Autism Speaks, a charity organization that spreads autism awareness and helps fund research and treatment. Also, if being a do-gooder isn’t enough, if you watch the video you’ll also get a free 30 day trial to XM Radio Online. (That didn’t make a difference to me, since we already have XM Radio, both online and on the little radio thingy)

So watch the commercial, for one reason or the other.

This link is really mostly for my own info, because I have a pregnant cat at the moment, and I expect her to pop out those kittens any day now.

This line cracked me up, though: “Rectal temperature drops below 100F within 24 hours before the onset of labor. Normal rectal temperature ranges from 100.5 to 102F.”

Now, I don’t know about anybody else, but you cat owners can maybe vouch for me here - I’ve yet to run across a cat who I expect would tolerate a thermometer up the butt - particularly during the uncomfortable stages of pregnancy. So yeah, good luck with taking that rectal temperature, and don’t use the same thermometer you use to check your kids. :P

How to Write Like a Wanker. Important stuff to know here. The original site was somewhere else, and I had it bookmarked back before The Great Computer Crash of 2007, but I think the link was dead by the time of the Great Crash. I ran across it again since I got this computer, and remembered how much I liked it.

There are rants, and then there’s artwork. “How to Write Like a Wanker” is both. And yes, I’m personally guilty of a couple or three things on the list, but I don’t care. :P

Mr. Picassohead - I would be amiss if I did not include a link to this site. I have spent (or wasted) countless hours “drawing” at this site. On holidays, some of the shapes and tools change, so at Christmas time, there are little trees, and around Valentine’s Day, there are little hearts, but at the moment it’s the regular ol’ Picassohead.

I did a self-portrait there ages ago that I’m fairly happy with, but I still go back every so often to fiddle around and make new pictures.

Loft Cube - I gotta say, this looks pretty damned cool. And maybe if you’re single, have only a tiny bit of land, and no idea of the value of a dollar, it’d be cool to live in, too.

Though, looking at the prices, I could build a nice three bedroom house for that price, if I already had the land to build on. I guess if I wanted to live in the city, and rent a roof or something, this would be okay, but ye gods, look at how many windows there are. I don’t know if I’d want to live in something that wide-open in a city.

Out in the sticks somewhere, where I could park it in the middle of a bunch of trees, maybe.
